The Trash for IT (Information Technology) & Sports initiative is proving to be more than a community empowerment project – it is also transforming the cleanliness of school environments across Ghana. By combining environmental action with digital education and sports development, the project encourages pupils to play an active role in maintaining clean and healthy school compounds.
As part of the program, pupils are encouraged to gather and dispose of plastic waste found around their schools. This hands-on approach not only reduces litter and promotes a cleaner learning environment, but also educates students on the importance of proper waste management and environmental stewardship.
The collected trash – mainly plastics – is sorted and recycled, with proceeds used to fund IT training and sports activities for the students and their communities. This creates a cycle where cleanliness, education, and development go hand-in-hand.
By involving pupils directly, Trash for IT & Sports instills a sense of responsibility, while contributing to both their personal growth and the overall well-being of their schools. It’s a simple yet impactful way to teach sustainability while creating cleaner, more inspiring spaces for learning.
